Final report and documentation specifications of FMIS

During the course of the FutureFarm project, actors and information flows, usage processes and data elements have been modelled and analysed, and functional requirements of FMIS have been determined. This resulting deliverable outlines the system elements and requirements for the proposed FMIS as an integrated and complex set of specifications depending on the farm production type, level of automation and inherent business processes. These specifications have included:

FutureFarm consortium’s vision of the European agriculture in the future and recommendations on the adoption of knowledge manage

In the future, European farmers will have to effectively manage information on and off their farms to improve economic viability and to reduce environmental impact.

Workshop - strategies for adoption of knowledge management

The "FutureFarm Validation workshop" was organized in Prague University of Live Science in Czech Republic. Prague University was chosen for its attractive geographic position and its ability to host this Validation workshop during the International Conference for Information Systems in Agriculture and Forestry in May 11th - 12th, 2010. The FutureFarm project, its main tasks and the achieved results by each Work Package (1to7) were presented during the workshop. Following the project’s presentation, a.

Analysis of principles for adaptive knowledge management on pilot farms

Knowledge management offers a great opportunity for farmers to grow on the market, to be more flexible as far as market needs are concerned and to develop new products or services for their production. Information systems are a crucial part of Knowledge management referring to all the interactive technology needed to store and manage information. Farmers have a wide scale of possibilities to acquire knowledge in their daily decision making process within the farm.

FutureFarm Project Extension until May 2011

Upon request from the Centre for research and technology of Thessaly, Greece, which is the project's coordinator, the EU accepted to extend the FutureFarm project duration until the end of May 2011. Main reason for the extension was the need for further project dissemination activities, including the preparation of a book which will present the main project outcomes.

Management Strategies

WP 4 of FutureFarm is mainly focussed on the Integration of knowledge for compliance to Management Standards into Farm Information Systems. These external Management Standards are published by third parties and explicit decisions by the farm manager are more or less restricted to choose which of the voluntary standards and private labels the farm should comply to. Based on a “Model of decision-making and information flows for information-intensive agriculture” by S. Fountas et al.

Third Periodic Report for FutureFarm (2010)

This is the third year report (Jan to Dec 2010) of the FP7 project FutureFarm (212117) ‘Integration of Farm Management Information Systems to support real-time management decisions and compliance of management standards’

Summary description of project context and objectives

Successful Agritechnica for FutureFarm

The FutureFarm project was at Agritechnica with its own stand, coordinated by ZALF. During the week we had the opportunity to present our work both to visitors and to many of the agricultural software companies who were present.

The information materials prepared for Agritechnica are now available on the site front page.
