Report on optimized fleet management to reduce energy consumption and costs-Rep.3:“Data and Information Requirements"

Deliverable 6.3 is titled “Preliminary report on optimized fleet management to reduce energy consumption and costs “. Its objectives are:
a) to investigate the potential savings in energy consumption and production cost by optimising single and multiple machine (fleet) machine usage at the farm level
b) to investigate the required data, information flow and information management for optimised farm mechanization management comprising single machines or fleets of conventional, or autonomous machines.
The deliverable consists of three reports.

FutureFarm Project Final Report

Although most people can see the benefits of using a more precise approach to manage crops with additional information, the tools provided by precision farming and other information technologies have not yet moved into mainstream agricultural management. The increased complexity of the systems inhibits easy adoption and makes calculations as to the financial benefits uncertain. These issues can be resolved by improving the decision making process though better Management Information Systems, improved data interchange standards and clear management methods.

Set of Requirements specifications for a multifunctional Farm Portal

The role of a Farm Portal is to communicate the multifunctional farm of “tomorrow” of being environmentally and socially friendly, energetic autonomous and enhancing the rural economy will be analyzed. The farmer needs to do documentation but also needs to get benefits out of the new technologies; moreover the benefits must motivate him to use these technologies.

Proof-of-concept implementations of client software, including Rules App

FutureFarm WP 4 deals with the task “Knowledge Management in the FMIS of tomorrow”. The set of deliverables splits this task in different subtasks. FutureFarm deliverable D4.1.1 specifies an encoding for agricultural production standards, which serves as a data exchange format for structured, machine readable documents published by some authority or similar consisting sets of rules which farmers may adhere to. Deliverable D4.2 specifies interfaces for a catalogue and rule service in order to discover and distribute these standards.

System analysis and definition of system boundaries

The objectives of deliverable 3.1 are to identify the scope of a farm management information system (FMIS) and identifies the conceptual system framework, which will guide the evolutionary process of analysing the information flow; define the databases, the knowledge encoding, the requirements for on-line control, etc. The specific output from deliverable 3.1 becomes the preliminary scope and system boundaries and will function as the starting point from which the expectations and constraining requirements to the system can be further explored.
