Machine-readable encoding for definitions of data required to assess compliance to agr. management and crop production standards

In order to reliably assess compliance to agricultural management and crop production standards and regulations, a large body of data is required. In order that farmers may gather the correct data to self-check compliance, and that they can produce the necessary data in order to proove compliance to controlling bodies, it is desirable, or even essential, that the exact data required be explicitly and unambiguously defined.
Although this aim is easily defined, no simple solution is available. Two central problems may be identified:

Electronic knowledge management and transfer for agriculture

FutureFarm WP 4 deals with the task “Knowledge Management in the FMIS of tomorrow”. The set of deliverables splits this task in different subtasks. FutureFarm deliverables of the D4.1 section are mainly about specifying an encoding for agricultural production standards, which serves as a data exchange format for structured, machine readable documents published by some authority or similar consisting sets of rules which farmers may adhere to.

System description of proposed Farm Management Information System (FMIS)

The outcome of this work package includes a description of a farm management information system which allows more intelligent decisions about the use of different input sources, treatments and information management systems (incl. precision farming systems) for a number of crop rotation systems. To achieve this, it was decided to assess the cost structure and potential benefit for these crop rotation systems for different technologies. Focus is on commonly produced crops in different European regions including wheat, rape seed, sugar beets, maize and other cereals, cotton or other crops.

Workshop - strategies for adoption of knowledge management

The "FutureFarm Validation workshop" was organized in Prague University of Live Science in Czech Republic. Prague University was chosen for its attractive geographic position and its ability to host this Validation workshop during the International Conference for Information Systems in Agriculture and Forestry in May 11th - 12th, 2010. The FutureFarm project, its main tasks and the achieved results by each Work Package (1to7) were presented during the workshop. Following the project’s presentation, a.

Knowledge Management Methods

The report D.1.2.1 analysis focuses on the examples  of agriculture knowledge management methods mainly in countries where the testing farms are located. Still, this study compares these systems also with other solutions available in the market. It  evaluates the currently used technologies at the agriculture management. The study analyses examples of two basic types of current farm management systems; desktop based and Web based. Part of this study is also the assessment of user satisfaction with the currently used systems.
